When it comes to home improvements, homeowners on the Eastern Shore want to make sure that their investment in home performance upgrades will not only make their home more comfortable and reduce their monthly energy bills, but will also increase the value of their home, should they decide to sell it down the road.
That’s where Pearl Certification comes in! A Pearl Certified house has been confirmed by a third party to be energy efficient, making your home more comfortable year round, and the certification will also increase your home’s value if you put it on the market. Let’s take a deep look at this valuable tool for homeowners and how you can benefit.
What Is Pearl Certification?
Pearl is a nationwide home certification company. As an independent third party, they certify homes that have met high standards for health, comfort, resilience, and energy efficiency.
The Pearl system assigns points to different high-performing parts of your home. The more points your home accumulates in four main categories, the higher its Pearl score will be.
The four categories in the Pearl certification system are:
Building Shell (roof, insulation, foundation, windows)
Heating and Cooling (furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork)
Baseload (water heaters, appliances and electronics used year round)
Home Management (smart devices, energy dashboards)
How Do Houses Become Pearl Certified?
Pearl certification is carried out by local qualified contractors. If you know of a home performance or insulation company near you, ask if they are a Pearl Advantage Contractor! Pearl screens these contractors to make sure they have the proper training and building science knowledge to perform Pearl certification testing.
When your Pearl certification is complete, you’ll receive a certificate as well as a detailed report on the specific areas tested. Hold on to that documentation, as studies have shown that homes with Pearl certification sell for, on average, 5% more than homes without it!
